Kids school carnival

Yesterday the kids had their school carnival.  Usually they have a bunch of bouncy house type things to do but this year they just had games, a haunted house and a dunk tank.  Tanner had fun watching his teacher get dunked over and over again and his principal.  Micah just chilled in his stroller, only cried when it was time to feed.  Savannah spent most of her time waiting in the long line to get her face painted and Spencer had fun fishing and getting his face painted as well.  We didn't bring our camera but we did have our phones.

When we found out that baby Micah was a boy we told Savannah that we would have to move her out of her room and into Spencers and then move Spencer into her room.  She was worried that Spencer and Micah would both break all her toys.  After she realized all her stuff would come with her to her "new" room she was ok with it but then asked if we would finally paint her room.  We have been promising her that we would paint her room ever since we moved in but we never got around to it.  Thankfully we waited or poor Spencer and Micah would either A) be sharing a pretty small room together or B) be sharing a pretty girly room! 

So labor day weekend we went and got the paint and got busy.  She had requested a pink, purple, yellow, green and blue room.  I had once seen a room with 4 different colors on it in a magazine and thought it was adorable so I tried to recreate it for Savannahs room.  She loves butterflies and flowers also so we put those on her wall. 

We forgot to get before pictures so we took a picture after 2 of the walls were painted.  It was a little tricky for me to help all the time since I had to nurse Micah or pay attention to him (which I love doing!).  So it took us a little longer then I had thought it would.  We worked on Saturday night for about 4-5 hours.  Then again on Sunday night for 3-4 hours.  And then spent most of the day on Monday doing touch-ups.  Darin took a break with the 3 older kids and took them to a movie (the kids get free movie passes from school to the dollar theater in Spanish Fork).  While they were gone I did more touch ups took down the tape and got ready to put the butterflies and flowers up.  We had originally wanted to do a stencil boarder but when I put it up on one of the walls I didn't like it so we painted over it and did something different.  Once the kids went to sleep we got busy and again and spent another 2-3 hours stamping and putting her room back together.

I think we did a pretty good job and it turned out pretty cute.  When Savannah woke up on Tuesday morning she was so thrilled to see that it was all finished.  Now I need to find out how to refinish old furniture.  A few years ago my Uncle gave me a pair of dressers that belonged to my Great Grandma.  I was pregnant at the time with Spencer so I didn't want to do it then and well.... 3 years later I still haven't gotten around to it!  Oh well it still looks ok in Savannahs room.  Spencer is now asking us to paint his room.....  I told him I would paint it white!  No one day we will get around to Spencer's and Micah's room.

Littlest Pet Shop stolen by a Squirrel

Here is the picture I promised of the littlest pet shop that was stolen by a squirrel while camping.  Once he realized it wasn't any good he dropped it 

Photo Bomb

Darin has been getting a kick out of pictures he finds online of people/pets photo bombing the picture being taken.  Photo bombing, for those who don't know, is when you are taking a picture of someone/something and then someone or something comes into the view right as you are taking said picture. 

The day Micah was blessed I took some pictures.  I wasn't looking at the lcd screen after every shot because I was to busy trying to get Micah to smile.  So when I uploaded the pictures to the computer I came across this picture.....

It's a perfect photo bombed picture!  I get a kick out of Spencers expression. 

Back to School

Tanner and Savannah went back to school today.  5th and 2nd grade.  Man they are growing up to fast.  They are both really excited to be back in school.  Tanner got the teacher he has wanted since he was in 2nd grade.  Every year he would tell me he didn't care who he got that year for a teacher as long as in 5th grade he could get Mr Fox.  Well he got Mr Fox and he is thrilled about it.  He seems like a great teacher.  The classroom has desks but no chairs.  Tanner will get to sit on those big exercise balls all year long.  Fun for the kids but man if I were that teacher I probably would pop all the balls the first day because the kids were driving me nuts by playing with them instead of listening!  I really do admire most teachers and their patients.

Savannah has 2 teachers again since she is still in the Spanish class.  She is actually really good at understanding Spanish.  She doesn't speak it very well yet but she does know a lot of words.  She had 2 sets of homework to do when she got home.  She was really scared this year because her best friend just moved and wouldn't be in her class.  But she came home and said that she made a lot of new friends.  Kind of cute since they have had the same 50 kids in the Spanish classes since kindergarten :)  She is in the verde group which meets with the English teacher for the first half of school.  Then they switch to the Spanish teach who will hopefully only speak Spanish.  Last year Mrs Diaz slipped and talked English in front of one of the kids who then told everyone that she could speak some English.  She did a good job though and still only spoke English if it was an emergency.

Micahs Blessing

On Sunday August 12, 2012 Darin gave Micah a beautiful blessing.  Afterwards we had family and friends over for a lunch at our house.  Thank you to all those who came and participated.   We have wonderful family and friends that we love very much.

Camping

Every year since 2000 during the summer time my family plans a camping trip.  Usually just up Provo canyon at a nice camp ground, but we have gone to a couple different places as well.  This year it was just my sisters camping because my parents are A. are getting old and don't like to camp that much and B. they are on a mission and my brother Mark and Jocie live in AZ so they couldn't make it either.

I was looking forward to the trip even with a new born.  I remember when Spencer was a new born baby he was so easy to take camping.  Micah was easy also mostly because he was either being held by one of his adoring Aunts or he was in the portable swing!  Spencer being 3 was another story and I knew it would be hard with him since he is still to young to be with the older kids all the time and because he is just a little clumsy like most kids his age.  Poor Spencer was beat up almost every day and not by any person but from him tripping or walking in Stinging "metal" (as most of the little girlies were saying".  He also bonked his head and when he tripped he landed on his mouth and knocked his teeth pretty badly.  But he still had a fun time and can't stop talking about camping.   Tanner and Savannah love to camp mostly because it means they get to play with their cousins, that they love so much, every day,

This year the men wanted to go fishing.  Ok mostly it was Kevin (brother in-law) that said I'm going fishing so if you want to come get your license.  I think every year someone has said "next year we should go fishing or boating or something, while we are here" but it never happens.  The men and older boys had fun doing that.  That is all Tanner could talk about while we were preparing to go camping.  I'm afraid for the first day that we were up there that is all he could talk about also :)  I don't think anyone caught anything but they all had fun.

While the men were fishing the little girls and the 3 little boys (Micah, Spencer and Jaxon) stayed behind with the moms.  Earlier that morning MariAnn had done Bethanys hair so Addie and Savannah wanted their hair done just like it.  So MariAnn and Bec did the girlies hair all the same.  And then we moms all took a bunch of photos. 

 I think I need to frame this one (above) and give as a gift to all the girlies!  Because it is just too cute :)

We brought up boondoggle for all the kids to do (which usually means the parents do it!).  MariAnn brought up a fun bracelet thing-a-ma-jig that some of them made and had fun doing it.  They also hiked Stewart Falls and most everyone went to Bridal Veil Falls (pictures to come in another post).

The food was great as usual.  I think all the kids favorite dinner was when Aunt Lea and Uncle Kevin made pizzas with pitta bread so everyone got to make their pizzas the way they wanted.  Darin said his favorite was Bec's and Jason's tin foil dinner in a dutch oven and my favorite was MariAnn's and Dave's mountain man breakfast... mmmmm.

Oh I almost forgot.  While we were packing up to go.  Savannah was playing with the girls and her Littlest Pet Shops.  A squirrel came and stole one of her Pets.  The Squirrel took it up into a tree and nibbled on it a bit and then dropped it since it wasn't anything good to eat.  But it landed in a tree branch.  Savannah was so devastated.  Crying and screaming at the "dumb squirrel",  Tanner was screaming at it also telling the squirrel that he made his sister cry and that he was gonna hurt it!  And the girl cousins looking for the pet that the squirrel had taken.  I think all the parents were getting a kick out of the reactions of my kids! I know I was laughing inside :)  I think Spencer even called it a "stupid squirrel".  Bethany actually spotted where the squirrel dropped the pet into a branch.  So I called Harley to see if he could knock the pet out of the branch with some rocks.  After a few shots Harley was able to "save" the pet.  I didn't get a picture of the damage that the squirrel did to the kitty but once Savannah gets home from school I will have her find it so I can take a picture.
